The inspiration for this initiative was also a turning point in my law enforcement career, and a stark reminder of the fragility of life. Having worked as a police officer in various front-line and investigative roles, and in many units and geographical areas for over ten years, nothing could have prepared me for the scenario of getting shot and nearly killed in the line of duty. This incident was enlightening because it highlighted the audacity of criminals. If a select many are committed to victimizing police officers to further their agenda, what are they willing to do to unarmed citizens going about their daily lives?
Similar to how law enforcement agencies are increasingly leveraging new technologies and using innovative approaches to fight crime, the public should strive to do the same in an effort to support law enforcement investigations. Information collection and sharing is essential to preventing and solving crimes. This initiative will discuss various ways that the public can assist law enforcement in their efforts to combat crime, while remaining safe and secure.
